Two New Aesop Stores in Melbourne

In 2007, Aesop’s Flinders Lane store was given a temporary makeover by Melbourne’s March Studio. Constructed in just five days, the store fit out is made entirely from industrial-grade cardboard, from the shelving units and countertop to the eastern facade. Once the centre of Melbourne’s rag trade, Flinders Lane is now home to stores including Journal Canteen and Superfino. The team responsible for Aesop’s redux are architects Rodney Eggleston and Anne-Laure Cavigneaux, who won the 2007 National Interior Design Awards for their work on Dusk bar in St Kilda. Pictures of the fit out are at www.aesop.net.au

An Aesop return to Flinders Lane has always been on the cards! Our Flinders Lane signature store will open in early 2008 and offer the full Aesop range and personal consultations. Once home to Melbourne’s clothing manufacturing industry, Flinders Lane has evolved to become one of the city’s more interesting precincts. We’re pleased to have neighbours like Superfino and Journal Canteen for great lunches, the Degraves Street Barbershop for $12 haircuts and the Centre for Adult Education to improve our French.

Aesop’s sixth Melbourne store will open in early November on Errol Street in North Melbourne, one of those inner-Melbourne suburbs that retains its links to a humbler past and is all the better for it. The slightly down-at-heel aura remains, yet the cuisine on offer has vastly improved, particularly at The Court House Hotel. Our store design will emphasise the building’s heritage, while the fitout incorporates found objects to create a store sympathetic to its surrounds. The new store will offer the full product range and expert advice from the corner of Errol and Victoria Streets, within shouting distance of the Docklands and Queen Victoria
Market.
